Mantova is one of the most important cities of art in Italy since 2008, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and contains a considerable number of monuments in its historic center. It reaches its maximum splendor with the Lordship of the Gonzaga, of which it preserves an important symbol in the Palazzo Ducale, in the nearby castle of San Giorgio, of the late fourteenth century, the famous Camera degli Sposi, frescoed by Mantegna between 1465 and 1474. The Gallery Museum of the same name is now housed in the ancient historic residence of the Cardinals Valenti Gonzaga. Palazzo Te is the most famous work of the architect Giulio Romano. There are numerous frescoed rooms inside, such as the famous Hall of the Giants, the Great Hall of Horses, the Hall of Cupid and Psyche or the Hall of Eagles. Then there are the Loggia of honor, which overlooks the fishmongers, the apartment of the cave and the fruit bowls. Due to its uniqueness, the building is considered a heritage of the history of art and architecture.
